Jiuzhaigou Valley → Huanglong Scenic Area, 3–4 days
Small-group Jiuzhaigou travel with a private guide and vehicle. See the colored lakes and waterfalls of Jiuzhaigou Valley and the terraces of Huanglong, no shopping stops.
Jiuzhaigou is a valley in the mountains of northern Sichuan. Limestone-rich water settles into bands of blue and green, with waterfalls and lakes strung along the valley.
We run Jiuzhaigou as a small group of 2 to 8 guests. A private vehicle and a dedicated guide travel with you, and we operate with no shopping stops and no forced extras. Ask us for a quote.
Lakes and waterfalls run along a Y-shaped valley. You ride a shuttle bus and walk each section in turn.
A lake that appears in five colors depending on depth. Sunken tree trunks are visible in the clear water.
A shallow pond so clear that the colors of its bed shine through. It is often called the most vivid water in the valley.
The largest lake in the valley, opening wide against the surrounding mountains.
A broad waterfall that spreads as it falls. The pool below is remarkably clear.
The big waterfall at the center of the valley. You can hear it from a distance.
Travertine terraces built up layer by layer. It sits above 3,000 m, so walk slowly.
| Period | What to expect |
|---|---|
| March–May | Snow melts and water levels rise. Flowers begin to open, but mornings and evenings stay chilly. |
| June–August | Heavy rain brings the deepest water colors and the fullest waterfalls. Some sections can close after landslides. |
| September–November | Autumn color and water color together make this the most popular window. Book rooms early in peak season. |
| December–February | Temperatures fall below freezing, lakes ice over and snow settles. It is quiet, but some sections close. |
Fly from Incheon to Chengdu, then on to Jiuzhai Huanglong International Airport. The airport is a road transfer from the valley.
You can also take high-speed rail from Chengdu to a nearby city and continue by road. Journeys are long, so allow buffer time.
Inside the valley you travel by shuttle bus. Your guide times the route for the quieter hours.
Leave Chengdu and reach the Jiuzhaigou area, then rest and adjust to the altitude.
Spend the full day in Jiuzhaigou Valley, taking the shuttle to the upper valley and walking down.
Tour the Huanglong Scenic Area, then stay nearby.
Return to Chengdu and finish the itinerary.
We operate with no shopping stops and no forced extras. We do not include shop visits or paid add-ons.
Jiuzhaigou sits between 2,000 and 3,100 m, and Huanglong is above 3,000 m. We keep the first day easy, and you should drink water often and tell the guide if you feel unwell.
Late summer rain and early autumn give the deepest colors. Peak season is busy, so entering early helps.
Frequent shuttle rides cut the walking. Because of the altitude, check fitness and health first.
Always re-check the latest conditions on the official sites before you travel.
