Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou sit within about an hour of each other by high-speed rail, so you move between cities without losing much time to travel.
This itinerary keeps Shanghai as your base and runs day trips from there. In Shanghai you see the Bund and the old streets, in Suzhou the canals and Lion Grove, and in Hangzhou West Lake and the tea hills.
Your guide meets you at the airport. You leave your bags and walk the Bund as the riverfront lights come on.
See Nanjing Road and Xintiandi, and wander the old lanes. The afternoon is left open, with an easy walk along the riverfront.
Take the high-speed train to Suzhou for Lion Grove and the Pingjiang Road canal lanes. Visit Hanshan Temple, then return to Shanghai.
Ride to Hangzhou and cruise West Lake by boat. In the afternoon, visit the Longjing tea hills and a nearby temple.
Return from Hangzhou to Shanghai and finish at the airport. Extra cities can be added on request.
