Shanghai puts old streets and tall towers face to face across the Huangpu River. The Bund and Xintiandi anchor the center, and water towns such as Zhujiajiao are close enough for a half day out.

We run Shanghai as a small group of 2 to 8 guests. A private vehicle and a dedicated guide travel with you, and we operate with no shopping stops and no forced extras. Ask us for a quote.

Key sights

The Bund

A row of old buildings along the west bank of the Huangpu. In the evening you look across the river at the lit towers.

Oriental Pearl Tower

A tower rising on the east bank. Its observation decks look down over the city and the river.

Shanghai Museum

A museum holding ancient bronzes and ceramics. Visitor numbers are capped, so booking ahead helps.

Xintiandi

A district of restored lanes. Tea rooms and shops line the walkways.

Tianzifang

A cluster of workshops and cafes in narrow lanes. There are murals that make good photo stops.

Zhujiajiao Water Town

A canal town reached by road from the center. Bridges and old houses run along the water.

Shanghai Tower

The tallest observation deck in the center. On clear days the whole city opens up below.

Season by season

PeriodWhat to expect
March–MayMild and blooming, good for riverside walks. Rain is frequent, so an umbrella helps.
June–AugustHot and humid, with a rainy season and typhoon risk. Keep midday plans light and mix in indoor sights.
September–NovemberCool and clear, best for night views and walks. Widely considered the best time to visit.
December–FebruaryChilly with strong wind. Humidity makes it feel colder, so pack warm layers.

Getting there

Flights

Fly from Incheon to Shanghai Pudong or Hongqiao International Airport, direct.

High-speed rail

High-speed trains run frequently from Shanghai to Hangzhou and Suzhou, which makes day trips easy.

Local transport

In the center we combine metro and private car. Zhujiajiao is a day trip by private vehicle.

Where are the best night views?

The Bund waterfront and a river cruise are the classics. Your guide times it for the quieter hours.
